A pediatrician is a doctor that is specially trained to care for children. On average, a pediatrician spends four years studying in an undergraduate institution, four years at a medical school and trains at least three years in a residency program before obtaining their board certification. Pediatric specialists spend additional time training in a fellowship program. Regular visits are recommended so that your pediatrician can make sure your child is progressing in growth and development and is up to date on recommended screening and vaccines.<\/p>

During infancy, a baby should visit their doctor multiple times in a year because their body undergoes dramatic changes in growth and development. As a toddler, the frequency gradually decreases until age three years when a child visits once a year.
